It's never too early to sign up for a professional email. Your potential employer probably won't be impressed with an email like BostonGurl836@gmail.com or SkiDude4321@gmail.com. How can you impress them? Keep it simple. I suggest FirstName.LastName@gmail.com.
If you can't get FirstName.LastName@gmail.com, here are some other options.
Let's say your name is Sarah Ann Smith. Try the following:
Sarah.A.Smith@gmail.com
Sarah.Ann.Smith@gmail.com
Smith.Sarah@gmail.com
Smith.Sarah.A@gmail.com
Smith.Sarah.Ann@gmail.com
If all of the above are taken for your name, try other combinations of your name and/or initials. You could also eliminate the "." in all the above cases. Avoid using numbers as that can appear unprofessional.
